Accompanied this kid on one of his last field trips in elementary school. I took his older brother on this same field trip to Jamestown. One of my favorites. We watched Shrek and Shrek 2 on the trip up and back. It was miserably cold and rained the entire time on this day. We had to eat lunch on the bus because we'd had enough. He was such a trooper and stayed positive throughout the day. I think he was happy to have me along.
Took the Drillers to Aberdeen this Fall for the Cal Ripken Experience. Definitely something they won't forget. The hotel was something out of Field of Dreams. Baseball everywhere. It was perfect. The halls, the lobby, the rooms...even the bathrooms had baseball pics adorning the walls. We arrived Friday afternoon. The boys got to skip school for the day, which added to the excitement of the weekend. The drive was 5 hours. Thank God for DVD players. We rode up with Cameron and Bella and one of his teammates. They watched the Emoji movie and Jurassic World and spent the last half hour building forts (also Thank God for that new tank I convinced Josh our family needed just for trips like this). The drive up was so pretty. We stopped at a Mom and Pop gas station for lunch and snacks on the way. The kids did great on the trip. The boys were totally in awe over the whole place. Our first game was that evening on the field just outside our hotel under the lights. They had an announcer who introduced each batter and a real concession stand. Cam was so pumped getting ready for that first game. That alone made the whole trip worthwhile. The boys were just having fun. Dancing on the field. Acting like a bunch of 10-year old goofballs. Laughing and smiling. I don't think even a loss could have taken them off cloud 9. But, we won. So it didn't matter. We only played 2 games. Our final day, when tournament games were supposed to take place, was canceled due to rain. We knew ahead of time the weather might not work in our favor. Going into Day 2, we only had one game. We won. But, it wasn't as exciting as it should have been. Because we all knew we probably wouldn't play again in Aberdeen. And we weren't ready to go home. It was a big disappointment; but I felt like I was more disappointed that the season had come to an end...a wet, rainy dreary end. This weekend ended up being more about spending time with friends than it was about baseball. That's just the way it worked out. And that was just fine. We ended the weekend as the number 1 seed and were looking forward going into that final day and possibly going all the way. It definitely would have been fulfilling to end the season as champions in Aberdeen and driving home that night on a baseball high. But that's not what happened. What did happen, however, was boys getting to be boys. The little siblings having the best time. And making a lot of slime. And your teammate getting a hit that he'd worked so hard for all season. The parents all hung together that final night. The boys may have also played a .... different game of baseball that I can't share pictures of....but that made us laugh, nonetheless.
This trip will definitely go down in the books. In Aberdeen. Cal Ripken Stadium. With his best bud, playing some baseball. Doesn't get much better than this.
It's a sad year when they've all grown up. Only one trick-or-treater left.
She keeps it fun, at least. And we'll always make them take a picture. Costume or not. |

AuthorMy name is Kaci. I am a working mom of 3. Wife to Josh. Mom to Jackson, Cameron & Isabella. My life is dinner, homework, baseball, basketball, grocery lists, laundry, middle school, wine, video games, and schedules. I started this blog because I love taking pictures, and I needed a place to document our life. I wanted a place to write it all down, to remember little details so easily forgotten in the mad rush that is the life of a family of 5. Through my photos and words, I endeavor to capture our story.
